Steps to Starting a New Business:

1. Choose a business structure – Visit http://www.sba.gov/smallbusinessplanner/start/chooseastructure/index.html for more information
2. Complete required forms and registrations for your choice of business structure – Visit http://bos.virginia.gov to use the Business One Stop.
3. Obtain local business license and/or zoning permits – Contact your city/county Commissioner of Revenue or Department of Finance for business licensing and your city/county Zoning Office for zoning permits.
4. Obtain required state occupational, professional or specialty licenses – Visit http://www.vdba.virginia.gov/Lic_A-Z.shtml for a list of all such licenses.
