Building Virginia’s Economy through Workforce Development
The Virginia Jobs Investment Program (VJIP) is one of Virginia's most actively used economic development incentives. The program encourages the expansion of existing Virginia businesses and start-up of new business operations in Virginia. It specifically addresses the top concerns of existing businesses and economic development prospects – finding and developing a skilled workforce. VJIP exists to support private sector job creation. It helps offset recruiting and training costs incurred by companies that are either creating new jobs or implementing technological upgrades. In addition to offering direct funding, VJIP also provides assistance with workforce-related challenges and organizational development workshops.

The Virginia Jobs Investment Program offers three programs to both new and existing businesses:
|>> New Jobs Program||>> Small Business New Jobs Program||>> Retraining|
|For companies or start ups expecting significant growth in the next three years.||For companies or start-ups with fewer than 250 employees who are expanding in the next 12 months.||For companies implementing significant technological upgrades affecting a large number of employees.|
Time and again, businesses in Virginia say how pleased they are with the Commonwealth’s hard-working labor force. Virginia facilities consistently earn productivity awards within their organizations. Combining advanced training and education with a vast diversity of skill sets, Virginia’s workforce is one of our greatest assets, and one of your business’s greatest advantages.
Through the Jobs Investment Program, Virginia offers customized recruiting and training services to meet your immediate and future workforce needs. You will have a single point-of-contact to coordinate a comprehensive array of resources to improve your recruitment and training efforts. Eligibility specifics and guidelines can be found within each program but in all cases is limited to projects for-profit companies.
In the last five years, the Virginia Jobs Investment Program has assisted 2,534 companies with their recruitment and training efforts and has supported the recruitment and training of 70,543 Virginians.
As a result of its flexibility and ease of use, the program is consistently ranked among the top 10 best workforce training programs in the nation by Expansion Management magazine.
